On March 26, 2016, It was race day for Livermore Half Marathon. Our group runners and pacers were ready. Weather was cold but by 8:00 AM, the sun was out and race started. Although I ran and paced many half marathons, this one was still given me butterfly in my stomach because I put together the training plan, Venkat & I hosted the training runs, coordinated the pacing, and everything went as smooth as planned. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you our group members for participating in our training group runs and our pacers for pacing the event. Thank you to Runliv.com (Kristel A.) for your supports!
Lastly, I would like to leave a quote from Speazii “BE POSITIVE in 2016” but applied to what it meant to our group. **If you FAIL to join our group runs, never give up because F.A.I.L means “First Attempt In Learning.” **Our 12-weeks of group runs come to an end this week. End is not the end. In fact, E.N.D means “EFFORT NEVER DIES.” Your twelve of running efforts made you a stronger runner. **If you said No to those days you didn’t join the group runs, remember N.O. means “NEXT OPPORTUNITY”, Come back and join us for our next training group runs in May, 2016
Happy running!

Were all pacers supposed to do relatively flat splits? I ask because a lone 2:30 pacer passed me around mile 8.5 when I was on track to PR below a 2:30 pace (my garmin read 10:45 at the time). It appeared that he walked the final 2 miles.
I ended up finishing the course at 2:24.

Leanna,
Our pacers were targeted for even-splits with +/- 1 minute of target pace, however, depending race environment, they adjusted their paces accordingly. Because the race was congested in the Sycamore Park and Arroyo Bike Path, it was difficult to run even-split. Also, the course marker was short by .2 mile for every mile. it was impacted our pacers to adjust. Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding. I normally would not inquire on this; however, nothing was more discouraging than seeing this pacer pass so quickly with 4.5 miles to go. If my calculations are correct, he hit this mile marker more than 10 minutes faster than he should have.
It’s so important to have accurate pacers, I almost broke down when passed… (I later saw him walking). He also did not have ANYONE following, which to me is a huge red flag as I’ve ran 8 other half marathons with / near pace groups with huge followings.

Leanna,
Thank you for the feedback and will communicate your feedback to our pacers to ensure we do even-splits for the entire course.

I wanted to say thanks again to the 2:45 pacers. I was dreading this race….no I did not train. They kept on pace, their sign was visible, and their instructions loud and clear. Thanks for everything! How can I join?
